That is exactly how our night at
Bobcat Bungalow felt.
Tucked away in the woods in Bradford, New York, with a view of Lamoka Lake, this cozy little yurt gave us the kind of Keuka-area adventure that feels part getaway, part childhood dream, and part "wait... are we actually sleeping in the woods tonight?"
And yes. We were.
But in the best possible way.
There is something magical about driving away from the lake for just a bit, winding through quiet country roads, and arriving somewhere that feels hidden from the world. The trees, the stillness, the fresh air, and the soft glow of the yurt all had that fairy tale feeling, like we had found a secret little chapter tucked between Penn Yan, Hammondsport, and all the familiar places we love.
Inside, Bobcat Bungalow was warm, charming, and just rustic enough to feel like an adventure without making us question our life choices. You knew every little detail had been planned with care. From the warm fuzzy robes and cozy throw blankets to the comfortable bed and well-stocked kitchenette, everything invited you to slow down and settle in.
Even the bathroom felt a little magical. Thanks to the skylight overhead, it felt like bringing a bit of the outdoors inside.
And if you're traveling with a four-legged family member, they have not been forgotten either. Bobcat Bungalow is pet-friendly, and perhaps one of the most adorable touches of all was a little teepee right inside the yurt with a dog bed tucked inside. It was one of those thoughtful details that instantly makes you smile.
No big hotel lobby.
No traffic.
No noise.
Just woods, quiet, laughter, and the feeling that we had stumbled onto something special.
And then there were the rabbits.
Not one rabbit. Not two rabbits. An entire little family of rabbits seemed determined to provide the evening's entertainment. They hopped through the grass, darted in and out of the brush, chased one another, and generally carried on as though they owned the place.
We found ourselves watching their antics with the same delight children might have discovering woodland creatures in a fairy tale. It was one of those simple moments that cannot be planned but somehow becomes one of the memories you carry home.
As evening settled in, the campfire became the center of the experience.
There is something about roasting hot dogs and marshmallows over an open fire—regardless of how old you may be—that instantly makes you feel like a child again. Maybe it is the crackling flames, the smell of wood smoke drifting through the air, or the simple challenge of trying to achieve the perfect golden-brown marshmallow without setting it ablaze.
Before long, the conversation had turned into a series of "when I was a kid" stories. One memory led to another, followed by laughter, more stories, and even more laughter. The kind of laughter that comes easily when there are no schedules to keep, no places to be, and no reason to rush.
For a little while, time seemed to slow down.
No deadlines.
No notifications.
No distractions.
Just friends sitting around a fire beneath the evening sky, sharing memories from long ago while creating a few new ones of our own.
And perhaps that is the real magic of places like Bobcat Bungalow. They do not simply give you a place to stay. They give you a place to reconnect—with nature, with friends, with memories, and maybe even with the child still hiding somewhere inside all of us.
After a full day of Keuka exploring, sipping, visiting, and storytelling, the yurt was the perfect ending. It felt like the lake-life version of a deep breath. The kind of place where you sit back, listen to the night sounds, watch rabbits play in the fading light, and remember that adventure does not always have to be far away.
Sometimes it is just down a country road.
Sometimes it has a round roof, fuzzy robes, a cozy bed, a campfire, and a family of rabbits serving as your evening hosts.
And sometimes, the best stories are the ones that happen when two gals decide to say yes to something a little different.
Would we do it again?
Absolutely.
Because around Keuka, even the woods have stories.
And this one felt like a fairy tale.
