A New Chapter for the Hidden Cork

The Hidden Cork

Where Stories, Sips, and New Beginnings Meet in Hammondsport

Some places in a small town simply belong.

They hold conversations in their walls, laughter in their corners, and the gentle hum of community that makes you linger just a little longer than planned.

Right in the heart of Hammondsport, along Pulteney Street, The Hidden Cork has quietly become one of those places.

Warm wood, soft lighting, and an atmosphere that feels equal parts wine bar and living room greet you the moment you step inside. It’s cozy in the truest sense of the word — the kind of place where winter evenings feel softer and summer nights stretch comfortably into one more glass.

But recently, a new chapter has begun.

A Familiar Face Behind the Next Chapter

The Hidden Cork is now under the management of Kylee Bates, owner of Portside Bistro, bringing with her the same welcoming energy and thoughtful hospitality that locals already know and love.

Kylee understands something essential about Hammondsport: people don’t just go out for a drink — they go out for connection.

Under her guidance, The Hidden Cork continues to be the kind of gathering place where visitors and locals naturally find themselves sitting shoulder-to-shoulder, sharing stories about the lake, the vineyards, and the small-town moments that make this region special.

It’s not about changing the spirit of the place.

It’s about nurturing it.

Where Stories Naturally Gather

And if there’s one thing The Hidden Cork seems made for, it’s stories.

During Keuka Roots’ recent “Blind Date with a Book” evening, the space felt almost destined for a literary gathering. The glow of conversation filled the room as guests discovered their mystery books, shared wine, and traded reading recommendations.

And then there’s the bartender — a quiet legend in her own right.

With over 600 consecutive days on her reading streak and hundreds of e-books downloaded to her phone, she brings a a vibrant literary spirit behind the bar that feels perfectly at home during every day. She can recommend a story almost as easily as she pours a beautiful glass of wine.

It’s those little details — the unexpected ones — that give a place its personality.

Music, Laughter, and a Little Bit of Celebration

But The Hidden Cork isn’t only about quiet conversation and cozy evenings.

Weekends often bring the room to life with local musical talent, turning the intimate space into a warm little stage where the sounds of guitars, vocals, and crowd favorites float easily through the room. It’s the kind of music that invites you to tap your foot, order another glass, and maybe stay longer than you planned.

And then there are the themed parties — the fun kind that small towns do best. From seasonal gatherings to playful nights that bring neighbors and visitors together, the atmosphere often shifts from relaxed wine bar to lively celebration.

It’s a place where you might arrive expecting a quiet drink and leave having discovered a new musician, made a new friend, or danced a little when you didn’t expect to.

A Place That Feels Like Hammondsport

Hammondsport has always been a town where good conversations happen easily. Maybe it’s the lake air. Maybe it’s the long history that surrounds every street corner.

Or maybe it’s places like The Hidden Cork that quietly make space for those moments to happen.

Under Kylee Bates’ leadership, this little gathering spot on Pulteney Street continues doing exactly what it was meant to do: bringing people together.

Because the best establishments in a lake town aren’t just businesses.

They’re part of the story.

And The Hidden Cork is most certainly part of Hammondsport’s.

A Look Back at the Story Behind the Cork

Before it became The Hidden Cork, the cozy space at 54 Pulteney Street in Hammondsport was known as Over the Bridge Wine & Beer Bar, a small gathering spot just steps from the village square where locals and visitors alike could enjoy a glass of wine and good conversation. The building itself has lived many lives over the years, once serving the village as a gas station, toy store, bakery, and shipping shop, quietly evolving alongside Hammondsport as the decades passed.

Eventually the space found its natural rhythm as a wine bar celebrating the Finger Lakes wine culture growing all around it. Today, as The Hidden Cork, the little spot continues that tradition — welcoming neighbors, travelers, and music lovers to gather, raise a glass, and share the kind of stories that seem to flow a little easier here around Keuka Lake. 🍷🌿

Keuka Roots Note

Some evenings around the lake simply unfold the way good stories do — slowly, warmly, and with the kind of company that reminds you why you love this place. The Hidden Cork has a beautiful way of creating those evenings.

And with new stewardship guiding the next chapter, its story is only just getting started.

Stay Rooted. Stay Keuka. 🌿🍷
