Milly’s Market & Cafe Grand Re-Opening
Milly’s Market & Cafe Re-Opening Brings a Beautiful Day of Community to Main Street Penn Yan
It is no secret I am a huge fan of Milly’s Pantry and its mission.
In a world that often feels rushed, disconnected, and far too focused on the next headline, places like Milly’s remind us what community is actually supposed to look like.
Neighbors helping neighbors.
Good food shared around tables.
Local businesses lifting one another up instead of competing.
And a belief that kindness still matters.
That’s why seeing the Grand Re-Opening celebration planned for Saturday, May 16th in downtown Penn Yan honestly feels like something much bigger than simply reopening doors.
It feels like a celebration of everything small towns still do best.
But what makes Milly’s truly special goes far beyond the café itself.
For those who may not know, Milly’s Pantry has been serving Yates County children since 2008 with a mission rooted deeply in compassion, opportunity, and community support.
Their vision is simple, yet profoundly important:
A strong and vibrant community where children have the support, resources, and opportunities they need to achieve the life they want.
And their mission continues in the spirit of Milly Bloomquist herself — fostering equal opportunity, self-sufficiency, confidence, nourishment, and academic support for local children while believing wholeheartedly in the inherent value and limitless potential of every child.
That matters.
Especially in rural communities where struggles are often carried quietly.
Where families sometimes need a helping hand.
Where children benefit from encouragement, support, and someone believing in them.
And perhaps that’s why Milly’s resonates so deeply with this community.
Because it was never simply about food or the backpacks.
It has always been about caring for people.
And now?
Milly’s is entering an entirely new chapter.
Rather than simply occupying a storefront, Milly’s made the bold decision to invest in one of Penn Yan’s most historic treasures — the nearly 200-year-old, four-story building that stands as the second oldest building in the village. Renovations and restoration of the building are now ready to welcome the community and visitors alike.
And honestly…
that feels symbolic somehow.
A mission built on caring for the future choosing to preserve part of Penn Yan’s past.
Inside those historic walls, Milly’s is creating far more than a market and café.
They are quietly building another layer of community.
The newly expanded vision now includes event space rentals, office space opportunities, a commercial kitchen, future cooking classes, wellness programming, children’s ballet classes, and expanded gathering spaces designed to bring people together in meaningful ways.
In a heartfelt and humble shift, Milly’s also recently closed its lunch service in order to focus more intentionally on its evolving mission and expanded mercantile experience.
And what an experience it is becoming.
The café now centers around an old-fashioned soda fountain atmosphere filled with sweet treats, nostalgia, and small-town charm — the kind of place that instantly feels familiar the moment you walk through the door.
Meanwhile, the store itself showcases over 200 local artisan foods, handcrafted products, and artists, with portions of sales helping directly support Milly’s mission serving Yates County children.
That alone feels beautifully Keuka.
Local people supporting local makers while simultaneously helping local children thrive.
And as if all of that wasn’t exciting enough, another unique addition is already on the horizon.
Coming this summer will be a brand-new experience called Bug Me Edibles — and while details are still under wraps, something tells me this may become one of the more talked-about additions and experiences to Main Street. 🌿
Saturday’s Grand Re-Opening celebration from 10am–4pm at 19 Main Street will bring all of these pieces together for a full day of food, wine, brews, demonstrations, music, family activities, and community celebration — completely free for guests attending.
And honestly?
The lineup feels like the perfect reflection of the Finger Lakes itself.
Local wineries including Weis Vineyards, Keuka Lake Vineyards, Fox Run Winery, and Fulkerson Winery will be featured alongside local favorites like LyonSmith Brewing, Blue Heron Bakery, Sam’s Lavender, The Keuka Candy Emporium, Burnt Rose Wine Bar, Dean Lane Dining, and more.
Because around Keuka…
food and drink have never simply been about eating.
They’ve always been about gathering.
The conversations over coffee.
The laughter shared across tables.
The recipes passed through generations.
The winery stories rooted deep in these hillsides.
The farmers, bakers, brewers, growers, and makers who quietly shape the heartbeat of this region every single day.
And this event beautifully brings all of that together under one roof.
The day will also feature live performances, yoga demonstrations, creative movement, cooking demos with local culinary talent, and activities for children hosted by the Penn Yan Public Library.
Which honestly feels refreshing these days.
An event where families can wander this Main Street icon together.
Where adults can sip local wines while children laugh nearby.
Where local businesses collaborate instead of simply advertise.
Where community becomes the attraction itself.
After all the planning, the fundraising, the long hours, and the unwavering dedication of the founders, staff, and volunteers, perhaps the most meaningful moment of the day will come at noon during the official ribbon cutting ceremony.
There’s something beautifully full circle about it.
A quiet reminder that even when roots stretch far from home…
they still have a way of leading us back where we belong.
The official ribbon cutting takes place at 12 PM, but something tells me the true celebration will be happening quietly all day long — in the conversations, the laughter, the tasting tables, the music drifting through Milly’s pantry, and the simple reminder that small towns still know how to show up for one another.
And honestly?
That feels worth celebrating. 🌿
So, if you’re looking for a beautiful way to spend a Saturday around Keuka…
This may just be one of those days that reminds you why people fall in love with this region in the first place.
