Alariaus Yoga ... Just Be.

Jackie has been sharing her passion for yoga since 2011, when she completed her inaugural teacher training with Yoga Fit. Initially, she had no intention of embracing the practice; she merely attended a class after undergoing neck fusion surgery that ended her ability to participate in contact sports. In search of a way to keep her body active, she was unexpectedly guided by the universe to learn the art of slowing down and quieting her mind. Jackie reflects, “That is definitely an ongoing practice!” In January 2016, she earned her 200-hour registered yoga teacher certification after immersing herself in a yoga program in Mexico. She takes pride in being one of the eldest participants in her group, finishing her certification ahead of the rest.

Jackie began teaching classes wherever she could find suitable spaces, all while balancing a full-time position in Special Education at the Haverling School District in Bath, NY. It was challenging to locate affordable venues that could accommodate her growing classes. Her early teaching experiences took her to some unconventional locations (a story for another blog!). “It was tough at first to encourage people to try,” Jackie remarked, “but eventually I found my own little tribe, and it has been the most rewarding and humbling experience ever.” By 2018, she had realized her dream of opening her own studio, Alariaus Yoga, a hidden gem situated on Buell St. in Bath.

Jackie practices the Vinyasa style of yoga, characterized by its fluid and dynamic approach. She strongly advocates that yoga is accessible to everyone and strives to provide numerous variations in her teaching. At present, the classes available at the studio include:

Gentle Flow

Mixed Flow

Power Flow

Chair flow

Dance Flow

Kids Yoga

An exhilarating addition to Alariaus Yoga is the stand-up paddle board yoga classes offered on the picturesque Keuka Lake throughout the summer. This refreshing practice on the water presents a unique perspective that enhances the experience.

Alariaus Yoga also conducts pop-up yoga sessions at various local businesses. The next outdoor class is set to take place at Krookid Leyk Distillery on August 30th from 10 to 11 AM. This inclusive class caters to all levels and offers a breathtaking view of Keuka Lake while participants practice.

Last week, she was overjoyed to host her inaugural Yoga Day Retreat at the Inn at Waneta Lake, an exclusive event that welcomed 23 participants. This retreat represented a pivotal milestone on her bucket list, and she takes great pride in having accomplished it successfully.

The Alariaus Yoga studio also offers private event options, including children's yoga birthday parties, adult bachelorette yoga gatherings, blacklight yoga sessions, and more. Jackie's dedication to community is evident in every conversation. "I love customizing themed classes to meet the specific requests of groups. I also provide private classes both onsite and in the studio. Moreover, I relish the opportunity to collaborate with fellow female entrepreneurs to host classes like flower arranging, macramé, and permanent jewelry. It truly takes a village! The sense of community is the greatest gift yoga has bestowed upon me, and I am passionate about sharing that with others," Jackie expresses.

Since retiring this past June from high school teaching, she is excited to spend more time with her family while continuing to spread her love for yoga and expand her classes. Her inspiration stems from her late brother, BJ. Her motto, "Just Be," is rooted in the cherished memories and love from BJ that resonate with her each day.

Every year, she organizes a fundraiser to support the Finger Lakes SPCA, featuring the ultimate Scavenger Hunt in Bath, NY. Teams of four register and race to be the first to return after collecting clues scattered throughout the town. Profits from this event, along with items contributed by the teams, go directly to the cause. Jackie shares, “Last year Scavenger Hunt was such a blast that we’re doing it again! While I don’t have the exact date yet, it will be in October around Halloween, as the teams loved dressing up!”

If you’re interested in attending any of her upcoming classes or events, feel free to reach out to her! I can guarantee after talking to Jackie this morning, I felt as if I had known her forever. She is right, it's all about community roots.

“When gratitude turns into giving, a community shines brighter.” As I was scrolling through Facebook last night, I came across a post from Lauren McQuaid, owner of Simplicity on Main , that truly touched my heart. Her words carried such warmth, gratitude, and purpose that I felt compelled to share them — not only to help her spread the word, but to celebrate the kindness that makes our community so special. There’s a quiet kind of beauty in kindness — the kind that radiates from people who use what they have to make the world just a little bit better. Here in Penn Yan, that beauty shines brightly through Lauren McQuaid, owner of Simplicity on Main, a women’s clothing boutique that has become more than just a place to shop. It’s a space where confidence, connection, and community come together — and this season, Lauren is weaving those values into something even more meaningful. A Giving Spirit Lauren believes in gratitude in action. As she says so simply, “ When you’ve been blessed with a large platform, you need to do as much good with it as possible.” With the holidays fast approaching — a time of joy, reflection, and often, struggle — Lauren wanted to find a way to lift up those in need right here in Penn Yan. Over the next several weeks, Simplicity on Main will be collecting unexpired pantry goods for a local charity that serves families in our own community. Anyone wishing to donate can drop items off during the boutique’s regular business hours. And, as a sweet token of appreciation, the first 25 people who contribute will receive a small thank-you gift from Lauren and her team — a gesture that reflects the generosity and heart that define her shop. Style with Purpose Since opening her doors, Lauren has created more than a boutique — she’s created a gathering place. A place where women come not only to find beautiful clothes, but to feel seen, celebrated, and encouraged. Her belief that “nobody should ever go without” extends far beyond fashion; it’s woven into the very fabric of her business. Whether it’s through a smile, a compliment, or this latest community project, Lauren continues to remind us that style isn’t just about what we wear — it’s about how we show up for one another. The Heart of Penn Yan Penn Yan’s charm comes from its people — the small business owners, volunteers, and everyday neighbors who quietly make a difference. Lauren’s giving initiative is one more reason our visitors often say, “You can feel something special here.” It’s true — in our little village, kindness isn’t rare. It’s part of who we are. So as you stroll down Main Street this season, stop into Simplicity on Main. Browse the racks, say hello, and if you can, drop off a donation. Because when we come together — one can, one act of kindness, one heart at a time — we make Penn Yan shine just a little brighter. ❤️ Thank you, Lauren, for reminding us what it means to lead with grace, gratitude, and community spirit. 🛍️ Visit Simplicity on Main Let’s do what we do best, Penn Yan! ❤️ Weekly Hours: Monday: 9 AM – 3 PM Tuesday: Closed Wednesday: 9 AM – 3 PM Thursday: 9 AM – 3 PM Friday: 9 AM – 5 PM Saturday: 10 AM – 3 PM Sunday: Closed Address: 📍 1 E Main Street, Penn Yan, NY (The old bookstore on the corner of Main and Water St!)
