An Accidental Winery and the Gatherings That Keep Keuka Connected:

Point of the Bluff

There are some places around Keuka Lake that feel like they've always been here.

Places where you pull into the parking lot and immediately exhale. Places where the view makes you pause for a moment, where conversations come easily, and where you almost always run into someone you know—or leave having made a new friend.

For me, Point of the Bluff Vineyards is one of those places.

Perched high above the western shore of our crooked lake, Point of the Bluff has become a favorite gathering spot for locals and visitors alike. People come for the wine and the views, but they return because of the feeling they find there.

What makes the story even more special is that it all happened by accident.

It Started with a Hillside

Believe it or not, the original plan wasn't to build a winery.

Years ago, the property owners were simply looking at ways to improve and landscape the hillside. But as they spent time on the land, they realized something unique: this steep, south-facing slope overlooking Keuka Lake was perfect for growing grapes.

With plenty of sunshine, well-drained soil, and the lake helping to moderate temperatures, the hillside had everything needed to produce exceptional wine.

What began as a landscaping project slowly transformed into a vineyard.

And what a transformation it has been.

Today, Point of the Bluff produces wines that celebrate the character of the Finger Lakes while offering one of the most breathtaking views around Keuka Lake.

But if you ask me, the real magic isn't just in the wine.

It's in the people.

Where Community Comes Together

Some of my favorite moments around Keuka happen when there's no agenda at all.

You grab a glass of wine, find a seat overlooking the lake, and before long you're chatting with old friends or meeting someone new. Maybe you're strolling through the farmers market, listening to live music drift through the air, or watching people spread out on the lawn.

People are laughing.

Neighbors are catching up.

Visitors are discovering why so many of us are proud to call this place home.

Every Thursday evening, from 5:00 to 7:00 during the summer and fall season the farmers market brings together fresh produce from Glenn Scott Farm, artisans, musicians, and makers. It's the kind of place where you can fill a bag with fresh produce, discover a handcrafted treasure, and leave with a few new stories to tell.

And then there are the concerts.

As the sun begins to set over the vineyards and music fills the air, something special happens. People dance. Friends gather. Complete strangers strike up conversations.

For a little while, everyone simply enjoys being together.

That spirit of connection is exactly why we are so honored that Point of the Bluff is hosting the Keuka Roots Meet-Up on Thursday, July 2, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., as part of our Red, White & Blue Week celebration honoring America's 250th Independence holiday.

We'll gather beneath summer skies to enjoy live music from States Apart, share stories, reconnect with old friends, and make new ones.

Before the music begins, take time to stroll through the weekly farmers market, where local growers, artisans, and makers showcase the very best of our region.

Be sure to stop by the Keuka Roots table to say hello and enter for your chance to win a special Keuka Roots Gift Basket or Keuka Reads Gift Basket filled with some of our favorite things about Keuka—generously donated by local merchants, makers, and small businesses we love.

And because every celebration deserves a toast, we're excited to share this year's Keuka Roots Signature Drink, featuring a refreshing pour of Point of the Bluff Rosé—the perfect sip for celebrating summer, freedom, and everything that makes our corner of the Finger Lakes so special. We will be handing out the printed recipe cards at our table.

So pull up a chair, grab a glass of wine—or two—and join us for an evening of conversation, music, laughter, and community.

We can't wait to hear your story.

A Tradition as Old as Keuka

Gathering has always been part of life around Keuka Lake.

Long before tasting rooms and concert pavilions, neighbors came together for harvests, church socials, firemen's carnivals, and community celebrations. Steamboats once carried people and produce from one village to another, connecting communities around the lake.

The ways we gather may have changed over the years, but the reasons haven't.

We gather to celebrate.

We gather to connect.

We gather to create memories.

Point of the Bluff continues that tradition in its own unique way.

The Keuka Roots Perspective

That's why Point of the Bluff feels like such a natural fit here.

An accidental winery became a destination.

A destination became a gathering place.

And that gathering place continues the long tradition of bringing people together around our crooked lake.

The next time you're there, take a moment to look around.

Notice the friends sharing a bottle of wine. The family dancing to the music. The couple taking in the view for the very first time.

Those moments matter.

Because at Keuka Roots, we believe the best stories found in every day moments.

They're happening right now—in places like Point of the Bluff, where memories are made one conversation, one song, and one sunset at a time.
