Author Spotlight: Sheri Nobles

From Building Homes to Building Hope

When you hear the name Sheri Nobles, you might first think of construction, design, and craftsmanship. For nearly 30 years, Sheri owned and operated Homes Reflecting You by Sheri, a business dedicated to helping people create living spaces that truly reflected their personality and needs in Bath, NY. But in recent years, Sheri has taken on a different kind of building—one rooted not in wood and nails, but in words, wisdom, and compassion.

Sheri’s life took a profound turn when her husband, Dan, was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2018, leading her into the world of caregiving. Like so many others who find themselves walking this path, she was suddenly faced with the emotional, physical, and spiritual demands of caring for a loved one. Rather than quietly enduring the struggle, Sheri chose to share her experiences with others—transforming her personal journey into a mission to help caregivers everywhere find strength, comfort, and hope.

In 2021, Sheri and Dan made another big step—leaving their hometown of Bath, NY, and moving to South Carolina. It was a decision born out of both love and necessity. Sheri knew that at this stage of Dan’s Alzheimer’s progression, he needed a place that was easier to navigate, while she longed for warmth, green grass, and the chance to create a more manageable life for them both. The move was not just a change of scenery, but a way to continue their journey with hope and dignity.

Dan passed away in 2022, leaving behind a legacy of love and resilience. For Sheri, his journey—and their journey together—remains the foundation of her writing and her advocacy for caregivers.

Writing Born from Experience

Her book, Hope and Comfort for Caregivers: Warriors in the Shadows, is a deeply moving reflection on the courage it takes to love and support someone through illness. The work grew out of the notes and journal entries Sheri kept during her time as Dan’s caregiver. “It was years in the writing,” Sheri shared. “I’m confident God did the writing, and I was merely the vessel He used. He was our strength and continues to be mine.” In seasons of great sacrifice and profound pain, clarity and humility often emerge. Within that brokenness also comes a deeper knowledge of who we are in God—a place where unexplainable peace and overwhelming love provide strength and comfort beyond understanding.

Sheri doesn’t write from a distance; she writes from the trenches with God at her side. Her words carry the authenticity of someone who has felt the exhaustion, the frustration, the small victories, and the deep love that define caregiving.

In her book, Sheri offers:

  • Practical guidance for managing the daily realities of care.
  • Emotional support for those who often feel unseen or overwhelmed.
  • Inspiration and encouragement that remind caregivers they are not alone.

Community and Connection

Beyond her writing, Sheri has become a familiar face at local author events and community gatherings, where she connects with readers one-on-one. Her openness and warmth resonate with audiences, particularly those who are living the caregiver experience themselves.

One such gathering, An Afternoon with Local Authors at the Chat-A-Whyle, will take place in Bath on October 15th from 2–4 PM. The event promises an afternoon of sipping, savoring, and meaningful conversation with Sheri and fellow local authors. Sheri will be back in Bath for a few weeks, making this a wonderful opportunity to stop in, say hello, and catch up with her. She is deeply grateful to the Chat-A-Whyle for hosting and to the participating authors for joining in. It’s a true celebration of stories, community, and connection—things Sheri holds especially close to her heart.

Themes That Matter

Today, many have taken on the role of caregiver—whether for a loved one or as a profession—holding the hand of someone whose life is slowly ebbing away. Sheri truly believes these people are the unsung warriors. Her central message is clear: caregivers are the hidden heroes—warriors in the shadows. She wants them to know they are not alone. Through her storytelling, she shines a light on their sacrifices, their strength, and their resilience. With a blend of practical wisdom and compassionate encouragement, she offers not only validation but also a renewed sense of hope, reminding caregivers that their quiet courage carries immeasurable worth.

Looking Ahead

At present, Hope and Comfort for Caregivers stands as Sheri’s primary published work, but it’s clear that her voice has more to share. Whether through future books, community conversations, or workshops, Sheri Nobles is carving a meaningful path as both an author and an advocate for those caring for loved ones. She continues to carry Dan’s legacy forward in every word she writes and every heart she touches.

From building homes to building hope, Sheri Nobles’ journey is a reminder that our toughest challenges can lead us to our greatest callings. If you are a caregiver—or know someone who is—her book may offer just the encouragement and comfort needed to keep going, one day at a time.
