Soaring Through History:

Fall Fun and Spooky Surprises at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum

Nestled in the heart of Hammondsport, New York, the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum is a captivating tribute to one of America’s most remarkable inventors and aviation pioneers. Just moments from the shimmering shores of Keuka Lake, this museum celebrates the adventurous spirit of Glenn Curtiss—the “Father of Naval Aviation” and a true trailblazer whose innovations helped shape modern flight and transportation. Inside, visitors are immersed in a fascinating collection of vintage aircraft, motorcycles, bicycles, and historical artifacts that bring Curtiss’s legacy vividly to life.

As summer fades and life around Keuka Lake begins to slow down, the dedicated staff and volunteers at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum are anything but idle. They’re busy preparing for a full season of community-focused special events, bringing history to life in new and engaging ways throughout the fall and winter months.

October is the month of spooky stories and tasty treats, and the museum is joining in on the fun! You’re invited to bring your family and friends—dressed in your Halloween best—and celebrate the season at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum on Saturday, October 18, from 12–3 PM. Tour the museum while taking part in a spooky scavenger hunt, enjoy hands-on crafts, and, of course, get ready for treat time! Trick-or-treating among vintage airplanes and historic exhibits puts a whole new twist on Halloween—making it a day of fun, laughter, and memories for all ages.

And don’t forget to take part in the museum’s Halloween Costume Contests, open to both children and the children at heart! There will be two categories of prizes—adult and children—and winners will be announced the following week. Who knows? Maybe someone will even show up dressed as Glenn Curtiss himself!

While you’re there, it’s the perfect time to sign up for a Glenn H. Curtiss Museum membership. Become a participating part of history and help preserve the legacy of innovation, creativity, and community that continues to inspire generations in Hammondsport and beyond. Membership levels vary, and include free admission to the museum, special member discounts, and more—making it a wonderful way to stay connected all year long.

The Glenn H. Curtiss Museum remains a place where history and imagination meet, offering something special for every visitor—whether you’re revisiting old favorites or discovering new exhibits for the first time. With each season, the museum finds fresh ways to celebrate the legacy of Glenn Curtiss and the pioneering spirit that continues to define Hammondsport. From family fun to fascinating history, there’s always something exciting happening—and even more new experiences and exhibits just around the corner. So stop in, explore, and be part of the story that keeps innovation and adventure alive at the Glenn H. Curtiss Museum.
