Frost & Fire:

Where Winter Gathers, Stories Warm,

and Community Glows

Winter has a way of pulling us inward—toward hearths, kitchens, and conversations that linger just a little longer. Here in the heart of the Keuka Lake region, we don’t rush winter away. We meet it. We lean into it. And this January, we gather to celebrate it together at Frost & Fire—a Keuka Roots Signature Event in collaboration with the Greater Hammondsport Area Chamber of Commerce, rooted in warmth, storytelling, and community spirit.

On a crisp winter afternoon, the Hammondsport Fire Department transforms into a place of welcome and wonder. Outside, the air is sharp and bright. Inside, the comforting aromas of simmering chili, hot cocoa, and popcorn fill the room. Laughter rises, stories are exchanged, and strangers become neighbors over a shared bowl and a shared moment.

The Heart of the Day: Chili, Community & Connection

At the center of Frost & Fire is the Chili Cook-Off, proudly presented by Simmons-Rockwell of Bath, NY. This friendly, flavor-filled competition brings together home cooks, local legends, and bold culinary experimenters. From classic comfort to creative heat, each pot tells a story—and every spoonful is a chance for guests to cast a vote for their favorite.

✨ Good News:

We are still accepting chili contestants!

If you have a recipe friends request every winter—or one you’ve been perfecting for years—this is your moment to ladle it up and join the fun.

Stories That Warm More Than Hands

Storytelling is woven throughout Frost & Fire—because winter is when stories feel most at home. Community voices, local museums, libraries, and special guests will share short tales, local lore, and moments of memory that celebrate the people and places of our region. These storytelling pockets invite guests to pause, listen, and remember that every community is built one story at a time.

Kids’ Activities & Family Fun

Frost & Fire is designed to be family-friendly and joy-filled, with a dedicated Children’s Corner proudly presented by First Heritage Federal Credit Union. Young guests will enjoy creative winter-themed activities, cozy story moments, and hands-on fun designed just for them. Whether crafting, listening to stories, or warming up with cocoa in mittened hands, children are welcomed as a vital part of the celebration—because building community means making space for every generation.

Step Outside: Winter Views & a Community Bonfire

Need a breath of crisp winter air? Step outside and take in the quiet beauty of Keuka Lake in winter—a view that feels hushed and timeless this time of year. To keep the chill at bay, the Hammondsport Fire Department will be manning a winter bonfire, offering a glowing gathering place where guests can warm their hands, swap stories, and savor the magic of winter along the lake.

Local Makers, Winter Finds & Community Tables

Local vendors help bring Frost & Fire to life, offering handcrafted goods, books, art, winter treats, and small-batch creations—perfect for midwinter gifting or a little something to brighten the season.

📣 Vendor spots are still available!

Local makers, authors, artisans, and small businesses interested in connecting with the community during this spirited winter gathering are warmly invited to join.

A Winter Tradition in the Making

Frost & Fire is cozy without being quiet, lively without being rushed. It’s a place where kids laugh, stories linger, chili warms, bonfires glow, and winter feels less like something to endure—and more like something to share.

Families and friends: come hungry, come curious, come cozy.

Winter doesn’t have to be cold when it’s shared.

Stay Rooted. Stay Keuka.
