Mother - Daughter Duo Scoops & Blooms

Courtney Jackson had long dreamed of owning an ice cream shop. When the chance arose to potentially take over a well-regarded local ice cream parlor and  greenhouse, she knew her ideal partner for this venture was her mother, Melanie Coots.

Both have deep-rooted connections to the Bath, NY community, and stepping into the role of the next guardians of this cherished ice cream stand and greenhouse was an opportunity to realize their aspirations while infusing their own ideas and creativity into the business.

Though the mother-daughter duo had a solid background in ice cream operations, managing the greenhouse introduced an exciting new challenge for their professional development. With encouragement from the previous owner, Melanie wholeheartedly embraced the floral aspect of the business. And embrace it she did. Each Spring and Fall, several semi-trucks arrive to deliver everything necessary for your outdoor garden beds.

They have expanded the gift shop to provide both locals and visitors with a diverse array of unique gift options, a much-needed addition in the Bath area. They take great pride in featuring handcrafted items from local artisans. Their most ambitious project has been the integration of a full-service florist shop within the greenhouse, which remains open year-round. At Scoops & Blooms, there's always something blooming thanks to Melanie, the dedicated mom behind the operation!

In addition to this, you’ll discover freshly sourced produce when in season. The gift shop also offers fresh baked goods and locally packaged meats; all thoughtfully selected with a farm-to-table philosophy.

The Scoops side holds a special place in Courtney's heart. Alongside the beloved creamy ice cream scoops and frozen treats, they have launched a breakfast menu and an array of specialty beverages. As a local high school employee, Courtney is delighted to offer students summer job opportunities. Their vibrant energy adds an extra scoop of joy to every visit. While the ice cream section of Scoops is a seasonal attraction that usually wraps up right before Halloween, breakfast and specialty drinks are available throughout the fall, served from Wednesday to Saturday.

Cayla, Melanie’s other daughter and Courtney’s sister, is their ‘go-to’ gal when things get too hectic. “She always shows up and goes to work wherever we need her. We couldn’t do this without her,” Melanie said.

Courtney and Melanie are eager to keep infusing their creativity into Scoops and Blooms. Their minds are abuzz with ideas, contemplating not only what they wish to introduce but also considering the needs of the community. That's the secret to their success, ladies.

As fall approaches, Courtney and Melanie start gearing up for their annual Holly Jolly Market. Now in its fourth year, this two-day event takes place at the over Thanksgiving weekend, the traditional small business Saturday and Sunday. The greenhouse is transformed into a magical Christmas shop with a hub of local vendors, handcrafted gifts, holiday delights, food trucks, and of course, Santa. It has rapidly become a cherished holiday tradition for many in the area. It is never too early to mark your calendars for the Holly Jolly Market!

Whether you’re craving those final tastes of summer with your favorite ice cream, stopping by for a delicious breakfast sandwich, or eager to sample a new specialty drink, Scoops is the place to be. While you’re there, take a moment to immerse yourself in the essence of fall, reveling in the beauty of vibrant mums and floral blooms. Treat yourself or find the perfect gift at Blooms. Scoops and Blooms is where all your senses come together for a delightful experience!
