Toasted Shenanigans
Windmill Merchant Spotlight: Toasted Shenanigans
Calling all sandwich lovers!
If your idea of the perfect visit to The Windmill Farm & Craft Market includes a hot, made-to-order toasted sandwich, then make your way to Toasted Shenanigans in Building Two.
Behind the grill is owner Julia "Jules" Wilson, whose passion for serving people has been the heart of her journey for more than 20 years. Her culinary adventure has taken her from the bustling restaurant scene of downtown Phoenix, Arizona, all the way to the shores of Our Crooked Lake, where she's bringing that same dedication, creativity, and hospitality to Windmill visitors every Saturday.
Jules believes great food is about more than filling your stomach—it's about creating an experience. That's why her menu features a delicious variety of toasted sandwiches with something for every taste, from comforting classics to creative combinations piled high with fresh ingredients.
One of the things I love most about visiting local businesses is discovering the stories behind them. One of my favorite things? The playful names on some of the sandwiches. Each one has a story behind it...and you know I can never resist a good story. So while you're waiting for your sandwich, ask Jules how a few of them got their names. I have a feeling you'll leave with more than a great lunch—you'll leave with a smile and a story to tell.
And then there are the fun surprises. While you're there, don't miss some of her wonderfully nostalgic treats, including Kool-Aid. Yes, I said Kool-Aid—the sugary, brightly colored drink that made being a kid so much fun. It brings back memories of long summer afternoons, riding bikes until the streetlights came on, backyard games with friends, and sticky smiles after every sip. And if you're feeling a little adventurous, don't leave without trying her delightfully unexpected Kool-Aid Pickles—a colorful conversation starter that proves Toasted Shenanigans truly lives up to its name.
One detail that makes Toasted Shenanigans even more special is Jules' commitment to quality. Every egg used in her homemade menu items comes from her own flock of free-range chickens, adding a true farm-to-table touch that fits perfectly with The Windmill's spirit and the agricultural heritage of our region.
So after you've wandered through the market, browsed the more than 170 merchants, and discovered handcrafted treasures from across the Finger Lakes, make your way to Building Two, meet Jules, hear a few stories, and enjoy a sandwich made with experience, passion, and a little bit of shenanigans.
Because at Keuka Roots, we believe every small business has a story worth telling.
Sometimes those stories begin in downtown Phoenix. Sometimes they begin on a family farm. And sometimes they come together over a perfectly toasted sandwich beside One Crooked Lake.
I'd love to hear which sandwich you try—and don't forget to ask Jules about the story behind its name.
