Lake Life Flavors, Pleasant Valley Charm
From Village Tavern to Lake Life:
The Culinary Journey of Tyler LaCroix and Steve Stopka
Tyler LaCroix and Steve Stopka both grew up in the charming Hammondsport area, but it wasn’t until their paths crossed in the kitchen of the Village Tavern that a lasting friendship—and a shared culinary passion—truly took root. Tyler, a few years Steve’s senior, had already carved out a name for himself in the local food scene. At just 24, he had earned the role of executive chef, mastering the art of creating flavors that left a lasting impression. When Steve stepped into the kitchen to begin his own culinary journey, the two found an immediate connection, bound by creativity, ambition, and a love for crafting unforgettable dishes.
Those early years behind the stove were more than just a time of learning—they were the foundation of a partnership built on trust, respect, and a shared vision for the future. Over the years, their friendship deepened, and the idea of building something of their own began to take shape.
Four years ago, that dream became a reality with the launch of Lake Life Catering Co. Based in Hammondsport, New York, Lake Life Catering is a full-service catering company that serves the Finger Lakes region, offering a wide range of customized culinary experiences. From intimate private gatherings to large weddings and corporate events, Tyler and Steve pour the same care and creativity into every plate they serve.
Their talents extend beyond special events. During the vibrant summer months, you can find them at the Keuka Yacht Club, delighting members with fresh, flavorful dishes. When winter arrives, they bring the same level of culinary excellence to Hunt Hollow, a premier private ski and snowboard resort in Naples. No matter the season, their passion for food and hospitality shines through, creating experiences that guests remember long after the last bite.
A couple of years ago, Tyler and Steve expanded their culinary footprint with the purchase of the historic Pleasant Valley Inn, circa 1848, just outside the village of Hammondsport. The Inn features four queen guest rooms with private baths, along with a suite that includes a kitchen and one or two bedrooms. Each stay comes with a made-to-order breakfast freshly prepared by the chefs of Lake Life Catering—a perfect way to start a day of exploring Keuka Lake and the surrounding region. The Pleasant Valley Inn offers travelers a welcoming retreat to unwind and recharge after a day of adventure.
But it’s The Pub at the Inn that has everyone talking. Cozy and intimate, it’s the ideal spot to gather with friends for good conversation and a meal that leaves your taste buds dancing. The Pub specializes in global pub fare crafted from fresh, local, and seasonal ingredients, delivering a true farm-to-table experience. Complementing the menu is a carefully curated selection of New York State wines and local craft beers, highlighting the very best of the Finger Lakes.
The Inn also features a larger Victorian-style dining area, reserved especially for their special events. Be sure to follow their Facebook page for announcements on future special ticketed events throughout the winter—you won’t want to miss them! The beautiful Victorian dining area is also available to rent for private parties and corporate events, making the Inn a versatile destination for gatherings of all kinds.
For Tyler and Steve, Lake Life Catering and the Pleasant Valley Inn aren’t just businesses—they’re extensions of their friendship and their love for creating memorable experiences. From their first days at the Village Tavern to running one of the region’s most sought-after catering companies and managing a historic inn, their journey is a testament to passion, creativity, and the enduring power of partnership.
